Activity (a): Comparing Past and Present – Talking to People of Varying Ages
This activity involves talking to older, middle – aged and younger people about their holiday and leisure experiences and them comparing and contrasting their experiences.

This activity involves finding out what some words used by older people mean and what words might be used now for the same thing.

These activities have been worded in such a way that younger people not yet able to read and write competently can also carry them out with the help of an adult. They introduce fieldwork and research and allow the student to think about how people of differing ages may speak differently (in terms or pronunciation and content) and how the words used for some things have changed or not over time.
